Special and Secure Economic Zones in Africa (SSEZs)

Promoting the creation of Special and Secure Economic Zones in Africa. SEZs were created in 1980 in China, allowing it to become in 2020 the world’s leading manufacturing power with 2,546 SEZs. Building on this success, the Chinese have successfully exported their model to Africa. To date, there are 237 SEZs in the continent, but given the desire of African officials to industrialise by processing their abundant raw materials locally and also taking into account the population, 2000 SEZs should be created over the next ten years. The EU could set up enhanced Euro-African industrial cooperation, making it possible to accelerate the industrialisation of Africa by drawing on its experience in cluster, Italian-style distrits, technopoles with universities and technology parks.
